R E V I E W | Bumble & Bumble Thickening Hairspray

If any of you lovelies watched my Primark Haul video, you will have seen me explain that I would soon be doing a blog post on a product that had left my hair incredibly greasy... well, here I am now.
I received this as a freebie with my ELLE magazine a few months ago, and was so excited to use it for  two reasons : one being that I have always wanted to try B&B products, but could never justify the price. And two being that I have very thick hair, but only at my ends.. I really struggle to get volume into the roots and my hair ends up sticking out like a christmas tree!  So I had high hopes for this product, and expected it to do wonders for me.
I could not have been more wrong.
Initially I used this on my roots when my hair was dry, as I thought it was a hairspray. After realising this did nothing for me, I read the instructions on the bottle which state that this should be applied to damp hair before blowdrying. Now, at first I wasn't sure if this product was working because blowdrying my hair tends to give me thicker hair at the roots anyway.. However after a couple of hours post-blowdry I noticed that my hair went really limp, and looked awfully greasy! Please excuse these screenshots taken from the video - but as you can see, my hair looks so dirty!

If any of you know the correct way to use this, please let me know. I'm not willing to give up this easily on such a cult hair brand!

C H A R I T Y S H O P | H A U L

One of the benefits of being based in Eastbourne is that the main residents are oldies and students, meaning that the charity shops are thriving businesses. My flatmate and I had the genius idea of exploiting this by buying items, and selling them on for more. Her approach is far more creative than mine, as she can instantly think of how to alter or customise any item, and is on the hunt for good brands. I on the other hand like to stick to what I think I know: the hipsters. Having dated one so called 'hipster' and being surrounded by them in sixth form I know what to buy and rebrand as 'vintage'. Here are my recent purchases that will soon be amongst the other 'vintage' treasures on eBay.
h&m floral smock dress : I really want to keep this for myself, but I'm not sure whether I should keep it as a dress, or cut it into a cami. Any thoughts you guys have would be much appreciated!
knitted jumpers : the hipsters' staple item. Again, I really want to keep these as they'd look so cute with leggings in winter... but my business head (and my bank balance) are telling me to sell them.
arizona tshirt : 'vintage' american tshirt ;) I've already stitched the sleeves up and am planning to crop it. inspired by the £18 Rokit tops.
hugo boss jeans : I'm planning on selling these as they are, and then if that doesn't work I'll customise them into some shorts!
I also picked up a denim jacket for only £2 which I am currently trying to bleach in my bath.

Do you guys ever rummage in charity shops? I hope I have at least inspired some of you to have a look!

OOTD | SHEER TARTAN

shirt primark | trousers and boots h&m | watch ebay | rings market stalls

My student loan and wages conveniently came in on friday, so I took a cheeky shopping trip to Brighton. Here are my two favourite things I picked up - the sheer top was only £10 and has a cute leather seam. I'm planning on wearing it tonight with my disco pants for fresherssss. And yes, I probably should wear a vest underneath it, but when I threw my leather jacket over the top it looked far less cheeky. And as for the boots, I never want to take them off. H&M were having 20% off for students so they only cost me £25!

apologies

I'm sorry for the lack of posts recently, there's been so much going on in the past week that I haven't sat down and taken time to blog! I've just moved into my new house, and we're not getting proper wifi until next Friday - I'm currently stealing the neighbours... ssh.  Anyway, I have so much planned to post about - so expect all of that in the near future! I've filmed and edited an ikea haul but the internet's not strong enough for it to upload to youtube :/

I'll be back soon. Promise.

N I C E S U R P R I S E S

Last week I was lucky enough to win the gorgeous Bryany's 100 follow giveaway. She was extrememly generous and allowed me to choose whatever I wanted up to the price of £40, so I picked the Monki Christie dress, and a Bourjois colour boost lipstick - 2 things I have been trying to find £40 for over the summer!
I can't thank Bryany enough for this, her communication was excellent, everything was packaged beautifully and she even threw in a bottle of perfume! Obviously it was brand new and boxed, but I took these photos once I had got home from Bestival, where I used the perfume and lipstick everyday - and even wore the same outfit twice! I did not want to take the dress off.
Keep an eye out for many OOTDs featuring this beauty, infact I may do a whole video on how I style it :)
THANK YOU SO MUCH BRYANY

AUTUMN//WINTER W A N T

leather dungarees £30 Pull and Bear

Oh my gosh. These dungarees are so gorgeous that they deserve their own post. So on trend, and versatile. Absolutely ideal for the A/W punk season.
I can't stop thinking of outfit ideas in my head for this piece: Daytime - with cropped tops, oversized knits and biker boots.. or Night time - with heeled sandals, a white crop and a plaid clutch..
 This is a staple piece.
I can't say anymore about it.
I need it.

N O T D | HMS BESTIVAL

As you will probably know, because I can't stop banging on about it, I am off to Bestival this week. This year is the 10th anniversary of the festival, with the theme being HMS Bestival. Now there are several fancy dress options I could choose for this : the lazy and boring striped look, buying a sailor hat once I am there, going all out and dressing up as a mermaid, being ironic and dressing as a clown fish... I have left it far too last minute to even plan fancy dress, and as I am working there (amazing hottub company!) I think I should appear professional. So nautical nails it is:

Get Ready With Me | Night Out Makeup

It was my best friend Alice's birthday the other night, so I thought I'd do a video on how I went from spotty-chin-skin to night out face. Hope you guys enjoy it! As per usual, I'd love to know what you think. I'm always looking for tips on how to make my videos better.

NOTD

It's no secret that the majority of my wardrobe is black, or varying shades of grey. My work uniform is also completely black, so in order to bring a little bit of colour into my life I can't help but have bright colours on my nails. This week I couldn't decide which shade to go for, so just used a few :) I love the way they all compliment each other as well as my tan, and the essie matt top coat is AMAZING. I also highly recommend the primark blue. It's a gorgeous pastel bluey/greeny shade, and it came in a pack of 4 other muted shades for only £2! The formula is great, you only need one coat and they last so long on the nails.

Liebster Award

Thank you to the gorgeous ladies Mia and Linda , who nominated me for Liebster awards. I'm so grateful to be nominated, as I think it's a great way to find out more about new and exciting bloggers - not that I consider myself to be particularly exciting... Anyway I hope you find this interesting to read, I know I love reading other bloggers' answers.

Here are the rules :

  1. Link back and recognize the blogger who nominated me.
  2. Answer the 11 questions that have been given to me by the nominator.
  3. Nominate 11 other bloggers for this award – they must have less than 200 followers!
  4. Create 11 questions for my nominees to answer
  5. Let my nominees know they have been nominated by going to their blog and notifying them.

Mia's questions:
If you could know any language, what would it be?
It's be so cool to know japanese or chinese, especially if I knew their alphabet too.
What is your must have beauty product?
Liz Earle cleanse and polish. Hands down.
What is your favourite dessert?
Anything chocolatey, or in complete contrast a really good fruit salad
Do you prefer liquid, pencil or no eyeliner?
uhm, gel?... Out of those though it'd have to be pencil, so much more versatile.
What is your last memorable vacation?
I went to Egypt the other month so that memory is very fresh in my mind!
What made you decide to start a blog?
This is the 3rd time I have started a blog now, each time it has been because I have an interest in fashion and beauty and have been following bloggers and youtubers for years! The most recent push I had though was my university course and boredom over the summer.
What do you wish you could do better in terms of make-up?
My eyebrows! I can never get them perfect.
What do you want to end up doing in life?
I want Mary Portas' job, re-designing shops, re-branding companies, possibly my own clothing line.. all that jazz.
Do you prefer lipstick, balm or gloss?
Balm, I cannot be faffed with re-applying lipstick throughout the day.
Do you prefer soft waves or straightened hair?
Oooh, that's hard. I think soft waves are more flattering on me, but I prefer straightened hair because it's quicker for me to do.
Which beauty blog do you frequent most?
Lily Melrose's, purely because it was the first blog I followed so has probably had more views than the others.

Linda's questions:
What's you favourite jewellery brand?
Eclectic Eccentricity, I wore their pieces to my prom and everything is so gorgeous
What's your favourite song?
You by the 1975. I could listen to it forever.
What's your favourite UK city?
Has to be London, there's so much to discover.
Are you currently studying or working?
Currently I am working but in a month I will be back to studying
What made you start a blog?
Answered above ;)
How many pairs of shoes do you own?
Far to many, I can't even count as they are dotted around various places. But I can safely say that I only alternate between 6 pairs - I should really have a clear out.
What's the first thing you would do/buy if you won the lottery?
I'd take my mum out on a shopping spree, have a lush girls day out and spoil her. Even though she'd hate it! But she really deserves a treat.
Do you prefer books or films?
Sadly I don't read that much anymore, so it'd have to be films
Are you a morning person?
If 11am counts as being a morning person then yes :)
Do you have a role model in life?
I guess Mary Portas is, because she has inspired what I want to do with my life.
If you could have any job, what would it be?

Mary Portas'! I'll stop banging on about her now, or you guys will start to assume things...

My Questions:

  1. If you could swap wardrobes with any celebrity who would it be?
  2. What is your favourite time that you have seen a band live?
  3. If you had £1000 would you rather spend it on clothes or beauty?
  4. What's your ideal holiday?
  5. If you could have one handbag, what would it be?
  6. What are your 3 favourite shops?
  7. If you could live in any other time period what would you choose and why?
  8. What was the first record you bought?
  9. If you could only buy one makeup brand for the rest of your life what would it be?
  10. If you could change anything about yourself what would it be?
  11. What beauty product have you been most disappointed with?
And I nominate :
Bryany from Bryanyellen
Lucy from Lucymayxx
Shannon from Fromtopshoptotemperly
Paige from Echoesinyourheart
Rosie from Lifeandlouboutins
Jess from Beautifullylaced
Rebecca from Rebeccacoco
Jess from Madeyoulook
Eve from Brainybeauty
Gabrielle from Thelastbrokenroad
Lulu from Heyitslulu

I look forward to reading your answers lovelies :)

Jacket Zara | Tunic Topshop | Boots Ebay - similar  | Necklace Topshop | Ring Camden

I'm sure everyone is sick to death of us Brits talking about our weather, but it really has been so hit and miss recently - hence the legs out arms away look. I love this tunic because it's long enough on my stumpy torso to almost be a dress (shorts underneath of course!). I can't imagine how it'd look on people with a normally proportioned body. The dip-hem adds a little something, infact I might wear it with heels on a night out.

Having A Monki Moment

Even though I am skint, I constantly find myself online shopping - adding things to my cart and then having to tear myself away from the website because I can't afford anything. Monki is a brand that I have never really looked at before, but my gosh am I glad that I came across it. My bank balance on the other hand may not be so glad. Sadly they only have a store in Carnaby Street, so browsing online is my only option. There are so many comfy/casual pieces that I want: baggy vests, oversized shirts, tshirt dresses... my perfect wardrobe.

These are my current favourite items that I have been 'adding to my cart'. They are gorgeous pieces and so affordable; I will definitely be hitting their website before checking out stores such as H&M. As soon as my wages go in that kaleidoscope dress will be mine! It's also the only store I have found that sells affordable lace traingle bras - items I am keen to start a collection of, as they look so cute under racer back tops.

Have you guys bought anything from Monki? What's your favourite online store discovery?

Here's a video on how I made these beauties :)
Alongside university I make and sell customised denim shorts to earn a bitta' money, so hopefully I'll be doing an ongoing series of videos on how I create different styles of shorts. Let me know what you guys thought of this video - I'd love to see your attempts :)

are you getting enough?

uniqlo shirt similar | river island aviators | h&m jeans | h&m boots similar

Tonight is date night with my boyfriend as we have been dating for a year :) We're only going for a few drinks so I didn't want to get all dressed up. My short-torso issue means that I find it hard to wear jeans, but I wanted an excuse to wear my boots so found myself reaching for these H&M skinnies - the only pair of jeans that I own. They say it takes a woman 20 attempts to find her perfect jeans, so I figure why buy any more pairs! I absolutely love these jeans from H&M, they are as comfy as leggings, and they do an all right job of hiding my torso as they are super low rise. Inspired by the Guess adverts I thought I'd go a bit western with this outfit - heeled boots and a soft denim shirt. Is double denim still a thing? If not then I am either jumping on the bandwaggon very late or re-starting the trend.

T H E E L L E E D I T

Every christmas my nan buys me a subscription to Elle, which is adorable and great for my bank balance as I don't have the guts to spend £4 on a magazine full of gorgeous clothes that I can only dream of affording.  I'm hoping to make this a monthly feature on my blog, basically I'll pick out the key trends in fashion and beauty from my Elle magazine and condense them into a blog post. So alongside the designer trends I'm going to add similar pieces from the high street. Enough of the rambling, I'm pretty sure you understand where I am going with this feature. Let me know what you guys think as I'd love to hear your feedback.

The September issue of Elle is always one that gets me excited oo-er as it is full of the latest autumn/winter trends from the catwalk, and packed with shoots. This month it also featured Katy Perry on the cover, who I am not a huuuuge fan of, looking gorgeous with 60s style make up - definitely something I want to try and recreate. There was one main theme running throughout this issue...

G R U N G E
Punk, rock, rebel.. however Elle chose to describe it there were pages filled with grunge fashion and accessories. I absolutely adore this style as my wardrobe mainly consists of black items, meaning that I don't have to rush to the high-street to keep up with this trend. Obviously Elle mainly features designer items, so here are my pick of the best high-end pieces. If I were to win the lottery tomorrow I would be heading straight for the entire Heidi Slimane for Saint Laurent collection.
Mc Q Jumper and Jeans | Heidi Slimane for Saint Laurent Boots | Lanvin Leather Trench | Burberry Prorsum Bag | Chloe Dress

In terms of the highstreet I want to buy everything. Allsaints has the best pieces if you have the money, however the new TRF collection at Zara is great and affordable too. I could have dedicated this whole section to it - definitely a collection for another blog post.
Allsaints Jumper | Topshop Skirt | H&M Boots | BooHoo Dress | Missguided Clutch | Zara Coat

Keep it simple for this trend - bold black eyes, whether it's lived in kohl or glossy black lids. Lisa Eldridge has created so many gorgeous grunge eyeliner tutorials. This is my personal favourite..

The other week I posted a video on my youtube channel of my summer beauty favourites. Rather than making a July favourites video, that would essentially be the same products I thought I would just share this one with you guys.

All product links are in the video description - I'd love to hear feedback from you guys as I am still new to this youtube malarkey :)

REVIEW : Peugeot 208 XY Nail Wraps

The first thing I do before reading my monthly issues of Elle is flick through the glossy pages to see if there are any freebies. Usually it's just a perfume sample, or a foundation far too dark for my skin tone.. however I was surprised to see that alongside an advert for the new Peugeot 208 XY were some nail wraps. I have never used a nail wrap before so thought I would take this opportunity to review them for you :)

The first thing I noticed when opening these was the horrific smell. I don't even know how to describe it. They just smelt awful. I really loved the colour though, so decided to soldier on and follow the steps given. These involved pre-bufffing the nails and removing my cuticles. The nail wraps were really easy to apply, simply stick them on, cut them down and then file the ends smooth.

Although I love the colour of these I can safely say that I will not be rushing out to purchase them (or the car for that matter). Within 5 minutes the wraps were starting to peel off and go bumpy at the tips. I ended up peeling them all off within an hour. I'm really not sure if this is just something to expect with all nail wraps, or if it was just the quality of the freebie - especially as it was from a car company and not a nail specific one.
Have you guys ever tried nail wraps? Did I just get a bad experience with a freebie?

How I Style Skater | Smock Dresses

I have had my eyes on this Motel Rocks dress for ages, but could never justify spending the original price tag of £40 on it. Luckily I managed to snap it up in the ARK sale for £14! It's so flattering because it doesn't cling to any part of my body, and hides my stumpy torso. For my first youtube fashion video I have put together a lookbook on how I style it, and would love to hear what you guys think of how I put this together. Hope you enjoy watching it!

OOTD

The other day I went to Benet's in Cambridge for lunch with my Mum. The plan was to go for ice cream sundaes but their freezer was broken! In this heatwave, in the middle of Cambridge, with so many tourists... no ideal. Despite all this we were desperate for something to drink, so had some lush dandelion and burdock drinks.
I had originally planned to just wear short and a top, but when I saw my mum in a summer dress I thought I should make more of an effort... I absolutely love this dress, and it has a cheeky low back so I can show off the only part of my body that seems to catch the sun.

how to wear co-ordinates

Two pieces are back for the summer. There's no hiding it, or your midriffs.

Inspired by these gorgeous girls, I have chosen my top picks of the two-pieces. They are great for this hot summer, whether you are on a night out, at a festival, a wedding or out shopping.

I struggle to pull this look off as I have a stumpy torso, but I would love to be able to wear all of these. Especially the vintage strawberry print piece. It would look so good at Bestival.

This is the makeup I wore in my haul video, and it's a look I have been reaching for on a day to day basis if I have to go out and see other people. I kept the eyes really simple so that the bold lip didn't make me look over the top. The rimmel pencil is definitely one of my favourite lip products for the summer, I love the colour and can't wait to try more in the same formula as it lasts so well.

D I Y Dip-Dye Ombre Shorts

To make some extra money throughout university I customise old denim jeans to make shorts, so am always looking for new ideas on how to re-work them. Although dip-dyed clothing has been around for a while now I thought it was time I jumped on the band waggon. So here are some shorts I recently made, with the instructions on how I dyed them:

You will need:

Shorts, dye (preferably hand dye, although I used machine dye - just make sure you stick to the quantities in the instructions), 500g salt/dye salt, a spoon to mix, pegs, rubber gloves, a bowl and a hanger. Make sure you are also working on a surface that you won't mind getting dye on.

 1.)

Add the amount of warm water that your dye recommends into your bowl, and stir in the salt. Completely soak your shorts - this will help the dye to transfer gradually.

2.)

Mix in your dye thoroughly, then put on your gloves and dip your shorts into the dye as high up as you want the ombre to start. I chose just below the pockets.

 3.)

Then take the shorts out until just the bottom inch remains in the dye; the colour should transfer up the shorts gradually. I used pegs to clip the shorts to the bowl so that they wouldn't fall in.

 4.)

Leave the shorts in the dye for as long as the packet recommends and then hang them to dry - again making sure that then are above a surface that you don't mind getting dye on. I also placed the bowl under the shorts to catch the main drips.

 5.)

Leave your shorts until they are bone dry - I left them overnight. As you can see the ombre isn't in a straight line. This is because I had to bend the shorts into the bowl, so some areas took more dye than others. For future reference I will definitely use a bigger bowl. Also, where I used machine dye the lack of agitation in this hand dying process means that the colour didn't mix completely - hence the red line between the two areas of dye.

6.)

Rinse the shorts until the water runs clear, you can also put them in the washing machine - just make sure they aren't with other items of clothing.

7.)

After leaving them to dry this is the finished result

How I do: Festival Fashion

Over the summer I am going to do a style series based on the different music festivals, starting off with Latitude as it is starting next weekend.

L A T I T U D E

Typically a festival for families or first-timers, Latitude is all about the arts rather than just music. It's definitely the kind of festival where you can pull off looking like you have made an effort; there aren't many people with slept-in make up or greasy hair. The combination of the lush weather at the moment and the sandy ground at Latitude means that wellies will not be necessary, ankle boots and pretty dresses should see you through. I am dying to get my hands on the black and white Monki dress.
If any of you are lucky enough to be going be sure to check out the graduate fashion show held on the lake, and do not miss the 1975's set!

How I do a daytime bronzed makeup.

Whether it's pre-holiday or post-holiday I love doing a bronzed make-up look over the summer with a gold smokey eye. Keeping the skin quite natural means that my freckles show through and it doesn't look like I am caked in makeup for a day-time look.

B A S E - because I am slightly more tanned from my holiday I mix Bourjois BB Bronzing cream with my Mac Face and Body (c3) and apply it with my hands for a sheer finish. Then I use the bronzing creme as a cream bronzer with a buffing brush over my cheekbones, jawline and temples - buffing the excess down the centre of my face. I really can't make strong blush work for me, so I use Dallas bronzer from Benefit (celebutante palette) on the tops of my cheekbones as it is a more pink toned bronzer. Under my eyes I use Bobbi Brown creamy concealer (cool sand), although it doesn't completely cover my dark circles.
E Y E S - For my brows I use the MUA brow pencil in brunette on an angled brush so it doesn't look so scousebrow. I ran powersurge pencil by mac over my lids and under my eyes as a base, using a gold from the MUA heaven and earth eyeshadow palette over the top, and a dark brown from the same palette in the crease and slightly under my eye. Both of these colours have shimmer in which is great for this look, and the colours really compliment green eyes. To finish I used No.7 stay perfect mascara which I will be reviewing soon as it is amazing.
L I P S - I can't think of anything worse for a daytime look than a smoky eye and a bold lip, so I just use rose tint vaseline to give my lips a bit of colour.

Let me know what you guys think, and if you have tried this yourselves. Would you prefer to see these tutorials as a video?

Welcome to Keziah Rose, a blog named after myself.I'm studying Retail Marketing at Brighton and customise Levis shorts on the side. I'm starting on Blogger to support my university course by trying to gain an insight into how retail is developing through social media.

My blog isn't going to be that different to anyone else's. Examples of what you will see from me include:
